Falling with Rex
Jerusalem, 1938 – the British mandatory days, Rex Cinema opens in a grand gala. Already on opening night the location uniqueness is evident. The cinema is located right on the seam line between Jewish and Arab Jerusalem and adjacent to the British police. This place momentarily helped to put aside the bitter conflict and created a melting pot in which there was one common language – the language of cinema.
At night, all kinds of Jerusalemites – British, Arab and Jewish – would come to “Rex” cinema to watch films together.
At the center of the plot there are two 10-year-odls, Mouise, a Jewish boy, and Ranin, an Arab girl. They get in and out from films – from Errol Flynn “Robin Hood” to the best of Egyptian cinema, and within a short time they form soul friendship based on one common language and love – the cinema. The Rex cinema has become the center of their lives and they believe they have found their destiny. Meanwhile outside the cinema, reality continues to occur.
