This course will go in-depth with Unreal Engine 5 in making films in the real-time production process. This includes deep dive into sequencer, creating advanced materials, and setting up lightning. Overall workflows and pipeline approaches are covered as well.

You will be exploring those areas of  Unreal Engine 5 and going deeper into each selected subject than in the usual introductory online courses.

Lesson plan

  • The current state of the art of the technology that we will be using so that everyone is aware of the possibilities within the current state of the art.
  • Unreal Editor will cover the editor fundamentals such as project settings, import, export, and fundamental need-to-know topics for improved workflow quality of life within the editor and to make sure that everyone is on the same page throughout the rest of the lab.
  • Content workflow, organization, and assembly within Unreal Engine.
  • Materials, lighting, and effects culminate in the assembly of our cinematic
  • Utilizing Sequencer,the powerful linear timeline editing tool in Unreal Editor. You will learn how to control assets in your scene including cameras, lighting, materials, skeletal animation, and audio among others.

Lesson plan

Week 1 
  • Creating a shot, telling a story from a single frame to a single shot
  • Setting up scenes and establishing shots, the camera renders
  • Posing character, creating a mood in a scene
  • Working with Mocap. Using your shots as inspiration
  • Working with Mocap data, importing into UE. Introduction to a character pipeline
  • Finalizing your shot. Lighting, fx, audio
Week 2
  • Creating a sequence, working with multiple shots, and maintaining continuity
  • Understanding your brief, planning your shot. Multiple cameras. Thumbnails to boards
  • From boards to shots, key poses on character, first edit
  • Mocap shots, working with actors, directing, NOT dictating
  • Bringing your animation into your shot, refining the camera, and adding audio and FX. Bringing everything into focus
  • Final renders and delivery

  • Stylized Materials for Linear Content
  • Lumen Global Illumination and Reflections
  • Image Post Processing

  • Lab time working on the shots
  • Refining, adding FX. Bringing everything into focus
  • Final renders and delivery

How it works

Before the course, you will have an online session with the mentor to discuss your expectations and where you are with your UE skills to set the proper focus of the lesson plan to meet your goals.

Pacing will be quick but communicated to allow for easy consumption and a more comprehensive range of topics.

Questions and challenges arise when pursuing a goal that simulates real-world collaboration and final deliveries.

Fees and funding

Fees: €7 500

The fee covers the fee of the course without VAT.

It doesn’t cover accommodation, meals, and travel.

Approximate living costs during your stay in the Czech Republic:

  • Accommodation at the venue: €25 / night
  • Breakfast at the hotel – €5 (not mandatory)
  • Restaurant meals between €5 – 10
  • Grocery in general – €50 per person a week

Funding for Czech employees and freelancers

Czech Labour Office (Úřad práce) offers to cover up to 85% of the course fee within the so-called POVEZ II project (Support of Vocational Training for Employees II). See the details and conditions here.

Cancellation Policy

  • In the case of cancellation 6 weeks or more before the course starting date, the whole fee (course fee, or course fee + accommodation) will be refunded minus 150€ admin fee.
  • With less than 6 weeks‘ notice, 50% of the total course fee will be refunded.
  • If cancellation occurs in the final 30 working days before the starting date, no refund will be given.
  • However, we will consider transferring the fees to another course (conditional upon vacancies) but a 20% cancellation fee will be charged if this change will be made in less than 4 weeks before the course starting date.
  • We reserve the right to cancel a course if fewer than 4 people are enrolled. In this case we can transfer your fees to any future course or refund the fees you have paid in full.
  • Refunds will be paid within 2 weeks after receiving your full bank details.
