Lab Description

Storyboarding is the art of revealing information in the most visually interesting way possible.
  • As a story artist, you get to decide how and when the character enters, how to reveal the surprise, how to trick the audience, where to place the camera and what to look at.
  • How do you get the most interest out of a scene? what can you find in an assignment to make yourself excited to draw it? what makes the scene come to life? where do you put the camera? how and when do you move the camera? how can you make dialogue more interesting? what are the characters thinking?
  • Storyboarding is a form of directing. As a board artist, your role involves presenting comprehensive sequences for the director’s consideration. It requires a deep understanding of the characters, enabling you to convey their personalities and motivations through visual actions. The objective is not solely to create aesthetically pleasing images; rather, it involves a broader focus on storytelling and character development.

We’ll discuss all of this over the course, as well as learn how to imply mood with camera. i will discuss how i approach storyboarding, how i think about shots and how to achieve convincing camera movement in photoshop. i think storyboarding is the best part of the animation process, i hope to get you excited about it as well.Tom Owens, mentor of the lab.
