This intensive, project-based boot camp is designed for filmmakers and CG artists looking to master cinematic previsualization (previz) and storytelling using Unreal Engine 5, Maya, After Effects, and Premiere. Under the mentorship of a Hollywood studio supervisor, participants will learn how to translate story ideas into polished 3D layouts and dynamic previz sequences while collaborating with directors, producers, and animators.
This boot camp is for intermediate to advanced filmmakers and CG artists with 3D animation experience who want to refine their cinematic storytelling and previz skills for film and gaming industries.
Filmmaking Principles – Shot composition, narrative structure, and visual storytelling for compelling cinematic sequences.
Previsualization & 3D Layout – Transform animatics into detailed previz to enhance production planning.
Software Integration – Seamlessly use Maya, Unreal Engine 5, After Effects, and Premiere to develop and refine sequences.
Real-World Production Workflows – Gain hands-on experience assembling, animating, and fine-tuning professional-quality previz.
Industry Best Practices – Adopt professional workflows, pipeline management, and collaborative techniques used in studios.
Portfolio Development – Produce high-quality previz sequences to showcase to employers or clients.
Week 1
Week 2
The course combines morning lectures and demonstrations led by the mentor, focusing on filmmaking principles, previz techniques, and software workflows.
Afternoons are dedicated to hands-on project work, where participants apply learned concepts to assemble and render animated sequences in Unreal Engine 5.
This course is designed for participants with at least intermediate experience in a 3D package such as Blender, Maya, or 3ds Max. The focus is on authoring a dynamic car chase scene, which will be integrated into Unreal Engine. The workflow follows a structured pipeline: starting with a layout in Unreal Engine, moving into a 3D authoring tool for animation, and finally returning to Unreal Engine for finalization. The “middle ground” step—animating the scene in a 3D tool—is optional, depending on the artist’s role in the pipeline. The mentor will provide guidance on using Maya for animation, but participants are free to apply the same principles in their preferred 3D software. Those who prefer to stay within Unreal Engine can also animate directly in the engine. This course offers flexibility while ensuring a solid understanding of the complete workflow. Join us to refine your skills and bring cinematic sequences to life!
This residential experience fosters a community of like-minded artists, promoting both hard work and enjoyment, and accelerating skill development beyond what is typically achievable in online settings.
