3Bohemians
David TOUŠEK
organizer / animator
I’m one of the Bohemians behind ANOMALIA. We are a small studio working on animation and art projects, multimedia and education.
Since ANOMALIA is my personal idea, something about me: I have left Prague for Seattle pretty early on in my life (1999) and pretty quickly started to entertain a general idea to focus on graphics and animation. Over the time living in USA, I had a chance to get enrolled in one new digital graphics and animation program, established by Microsoft and Boeing at the Bellevue College. It was not initially the plan to study in Seattle but eventually I learned some multimedia and animation which got me addicted to want to know more, cause it was not enough. Soon I was more excited and determined to do 3D character animation. So eventually got to the Mesmer Labs in Seattle as an intern (helped them with their online orders and mail to get a course in return), got introduced to Maya in more detailed. After 4 years I have returned back to Prague and started our animation and multimedia studio 3Bohemians, working on various projects and sometimes helping out other studios in the area. In 2007 I have managed to also get trained at Viborg, Denmark at their great animation school the Animation Workshop and later on they asked me to do some teaching there eventually. Also travelled to Reunion island as a teacher at the Institut l’image de l’Ocean Indian, which was really rich experience by all means. In 2008 I have teamed up with a french director Matthieu Jorrot and together started to work on our first 3D short film TELE-VISION. It was eventually screened at Siggraph Animation Festival in LA, which was nice. We have also produced several other projects, our latest is MAGNI, which is a huge multimedia project dedicated to sacral tourism in Czech Republic, for which we have also produced a series of short clips on Czech history using various classical and 3D techniques . …. and so on and so forth until today. I’m more of an enterpraneur that has to improvise rather then just a full time animator. But that’s how we started the courses – wanting to learn more.
ANOMALIA is our initiative, currently running since 2008 when we started with short workshops on production, storytelling and character animation as an overview in just one week (our first guests were a long time Disney director Isaac Kerlow, animator formerly from PIXAR Kyle Balda, a president of french producers Christian Davin with accomplished producer Mike Robinson. Ever since then, we have had the honor to welcome other top professionals (Andy Schmidt, Rich Quade, Robin Cooper from PIXAR, Victor Vinyals from Aardman, Aaron Walsman from Blue Sky, BZ Petroff from Lucas Arts, Michelle Meeker from Animation Mentor, Dripha Benseghir from Les Gobelins) and slowly see the positive impact on local artists who finally have a chance to meet and learn from the best. ANOMALIA is rather a sincere reflection on the lack of modern education and training in our region, where we have a lot of animation schools but none has training programs responding to modern 3D animation and challenges with respect to current trends and high-end standards. There is also not too many top professionals to learn and get inspiration from. Training programs outside our region are expensive and we want to live in Prague … and so on … and so we decided to fill the gap and do it with passion for the craft and for the people that wanna do animation seriously by heart and as best as possible. ANOMALIA is NOT our commercial project (otherwise it would have to be a lot more expensive to cover the expenses and energy with the organization), it is strictly non-profit and personal. We hope to keep it that way – high quality, accessible, small, unique and inspirational.
You are more then welcome to join us this summer.
Marek TOUŠEK
organizer / producer
I’m the second Bohemian helping out with ANOMALIA from the producers’ point of view. I also produce multimedia projects focusing on development of online applications. I try to combine animation with multimedia as much as our creativity and opportunities allow us, though I’m not an animator myself.
Most of the things related to ANOMALIA has been said above. So feel welcome to consider ANOMALIA for your future growth and learn together with us to be better at what we love.
